Possible Causes
Dust accumulation on motor windings, Overloaded motor due to clogged filters, Failing motor insulation, Overheating control electronics
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately switch OFF the vacuum, remove the battery, and allow the unit to cool. Do not continue to run a unit that smells like burning.
- 1. Clean filters and airflow path: Replace the filter bag and clean or replace the main filter to reduce load.
- 2. Inspect motor area: Open the housing and use compressed air to blow dust off the motor and control board. Avoid direct contact with components.
- 3. Check for discoloration: Look for darkened or melted insulation on wires or the motor. If present, the motor is likely failing and should be replaced.
- 4. Test briefly: After cleaning and cooling, run the vacuum briefly. If the smell returns quickly, discontinue use and have the motor and electronics inspected by Festool service.
