Contaminated Filters / Dust Cup
Cordless vacuum smells musty or emits an unpleasant odor from the exhaust
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Dirty pre-motor filter, Damp HEPA filter, Debris left in dust cup for long periods, Mold growth in cyclone assembly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the vacuum and remove the battery pack.
- Empty and clean dust cup: Remove the dust bin and empty it. Wipe the interior with a dry or slightly damp cloth and let it dry completely before reinstalling.
- Clean filters: Remove pre-motor and HEPA filters. Tap out dust. If washable per Hamilton Beach instructions, rinse with cool water only, then air-dry for at least 24 hours.
- Deodorize: After filters are dry, you may lightly vacuum baking soda from a separate container using the nozzle to help absorb odors (do not put baking soda directly into the vacuum).
- Replace filters: If odor persists, replace the filter set with genuine Hamilton Beach filters.
