Possible Causes
Defective Li‑Ion battery pack BVL/BP series, Dirty or bent battery contacts in battery compartment, Faulty battery management system (BMS) board in battery pack, Main control PCB communication circuit fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch the vacuum OFF, remove the battery pack, and keep metal tools away from the contacts. Do not short the battery terminals.
- Check battery seating: Remove the Kärcher Li‑Ion battery pack (e.g. BVL 3/18, BP 4.0/36). Inspect the rails and locking tabs. Reseat the battery firmly until it clicks.
- Inspect contacts: Look into the battery compartment of the vacuum. Check the spring contacts for corrosion, burning, or deformation. Clean light oxidation with a cotton swab slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Let dry fully.
- Test with another battery: If available, insert a known-good Kärcher compatible battery. If E1 disappears, the original battery pack is defective.
- Check for play: Wiggle the battery gently while the unit is OFF. If contacts move excessively, the contact carrier or housing may be cracked and not maintaining pressure.
- If E1 persists with multiple batteries: The main control PCB or battery interface board inside the vacuum is likely faulty. Do not bypass safety circuits. Contact a Kärcher service center for PCB replacement.
