Possible Causes
Stuck or damaged mode button, Contamination under keypad, Faulty user interface PCB, Broken ribbon cable between UI and main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Remove the battery before working near the controls.
- Check button travel: Press the mode button repeatedly with the unit off. It should move freely and return smoothly. If it feels stuck, debris may be lodged around it.
- Clean around button: Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust from around the button. Do not spray liquids directly into the control panel.
- Inspect for cracks: Look for cracks in the control panel that could allow dirt or moisture inside.
- Internal inspection (advanced): If comfortable, remove the housing screws and gently open the handle area to inspect the UI PCB and ribbon cable. Ensure connectors are fully seated.
- Replace UI module: If the button or UI PCB is physically damaged, replace the user interface assembly with an original Kärcher part.
