Possible Causes
Motor fan clogged with debris, Brush nozzle or floor head fully blocked, Main suction path obstructed, Motor rotor partially seized
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the vacuum OFF, remove the battery pack, and wait at least 1 minute before inspecting. Never work on the unit with the battery installed.
- Check for blockages: Remove the dust cup, filters, extension pipe, and floor nozzle. Look through each section for clogs (paper, hair, pet fur). Clear all debris using a long brush or compressed air.
- Inspect the brush nozzle: On models with a motorized floor nozzle, flip it over and remove any hair or string wrapped around the brush bar. Make sure the brush can spin freely by hand.
- Check the motor intake: With the dust cup removed, look into the motor intake port of the main body. If you see compacted dust, gently loosen it with a soft brush and vacuum it out with another vacuum.
- Test without accessories: Reinstall the battery, then briefly run the vacuum with no extension pipe or nozzle attached. If it runs normally, the blockage is in one of the removed parts.
- If E1 persists: The motor may be partially seized or the current-sense circuit may be faulty. Continued use can damage the unit. Contact a Makita service center for motor housing inspection and possible replacement.
