Possible Causes
Blocked suction path in extension tube or hose, Severely clogged filter or dust bin packed full, Motor fan housing obstructed by debris, Failing motor drawing excessive current
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Remove the battery before clearing blockages or opening the unit.
- 1. Empty dust canister: Remove the canister and empty it completely. Tap gently to dislodge compacted debris.
- 2. Clean or replace filter: Remove the main pleated filter or HEPA cartridge. Tap it outside to remove dust. If heavily clogged or damaged, replace with a genuine Milwaukee filter.
- 3. Check hose and tubes: Detach the flexible hose, wand, and floor nozzle. Look through each section for clogs (screws, drywall chunks, wood chips). Push out obstructions with a flexible rod.
- 4. Inspect motor inlet: With the canister off, look into the motor inlet for debris wrapped around the fan. Remove with long-nose pliers if accessible.
- 5. Cool-down period: Allow the vacuum to sit for 10–15 minutes to let the overload protector reset, then reinstall the battery and test.
- 6. Persistent overload: If the red LED returns quickly with clear airflow, the motor assembly may be failing and drawing too much current. Replace the motor/fan assembly.
