Error 0005
Neato Thermal Protection Trip Due to Blocked Airflow or Sensor Fault

Vacuum shows overheating warning and shuts down after a short period of use

Possible Causes

Clogged cyclone assembly, Blocked air ducts or wand, Failed thermal sensor on motor, Dust buildup on motor cooling vents

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Allow the vacuum to cool for at least 30 minutes before working on it. Disconnect from charger.

  • Step 1 – Empty dust bin: Remove and empty the dust container. Tap it gently to dislodge fine dust. Wash the bin if the manual allows, and let it dry completely before reinstalling.
  • Step 2 – Clean filters: Remove the pre-motor and HEPA/post-motor filters. Tap them against a trash can to remove dust. If they are washable per Neato's instructions, rinse with cold water only and air-dry for 24 hours. Never run the vacuum with wet filters.
  • Step 3 – Check for clogs: Detach the wand, hose, and floor head. Look through each section for blockages. Use a broom handle or flexible brush to push out any debris, but do not puncture the plastic.
  • Step 4 – Inspect motor vents: Locate the cooling vents around the motor housing. Use compressed air or a soft brush to remove dust buildup that can trap heat.
  • Step 5 – Test again: Reassemble and run the vacuum on a lower power setting first. If it still overheats quickly with clean filters and no clogs, the thermal sensor or motor windings may be failing, and the motor assembly should be replaced.
