Possible Causes
Hair and string wrapped around brushroll, Seized brushroll end bearings, Failed brushroll motor, Stripped drive gears in brush head
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off the vacuum and remove it from the charger. Do not work on the brush head while it is powered.
- Step 1 – Remove brush head: Detach the motorized floor head from the wand or main body. Flip it over to access the brushroll.
- Step 2 – Clear debris: Remove the brushroll cover (usually a few screws or clips). Lift out the brushroll and cut away hair, threads, and fibers from the bristles and end caps using scissors. Avoid cutting the bristles themselves.
- Step 3 – Check end caps and bearings: Spin each end of the brushroll by hand. It should rotate freely. If stiff, remove the end caps (if removable) and clean out debris. If bearings are seized or noisy, replace the brushroll assembly.
- Step 4 – Inspect drive system: Look inside the head for broken or stripped gears and check the small brush motor for burnt smell. If gears are damaged or the motor does not spin when powered, the entire motorized head or brush motor module may need replacement.
- Step 5 – Reassemble and test: Refit the brushroll and cover, ensuring it is seated correctly. Reattach the head and test on a low-pile surface. If the brush still stops quickly, the brush motor is likely weak or the overload sensor is tripping and the head should be replaced.
