Possible Causes

Open or shorted motor windings, Worn motor brushes (if brushed design), Failed motor driver IC on PCB, Obstructed motor impeller

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect from charger. Avoid touching motor terminals while powered.

  • Step 1 – Listen for motor: Attempt to start the vacuum. If you hear a click or brief hum then nothing, the motor may be stalled or the driver is shutting down.
  • Step 2 – Check for obstructions: Remove the dust bin and filters. Look into the motor inlet for foreign objects contacting the impeller. Remove any debris with long-nose pliers.
  • Step 3 – Access motor: Open the housing to expose the motor assembly. Inspect for burnt smell, discoloration, or melted plastic around the motor.
  • Step 4 – Test motor resistance: Disconnect the motor from the PCB and measure resistance across its terminals with a multimeter. A dead short (near 0 ohms) or open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates a failed motor.
  • Step 5 – Replace motor assembly: If the motor is faulty, install a new Neato-compatible motor assembly, transferring any rubber mounts or seals. Reconnect wiring and reassemble the housing.
  • Step 6 – If motor tests good: The fault likely lies in the motor driver circuitry on the PCB. In this case, replacing the main control PCB is usually more practical than component-level repair.
