Possible Causes
Incompatible battery pack, Damaged battery communication pins, Faulty battery management system (BMS) in pack, Defective control PCB battery interface
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Never force or modify battery packs. Do not short terminals.
- Verify battery compatibility: Ensure you are using an original or approved Progress cordless vacuum battery with the correct voltage and connector type. Third-party or mismatched packs can trigger E4.
- Inspect contacts: Remove the battery and examine the metal contacts on both the pack and the vacuum. Look for bent pins, corrosion, or contamination. Clean gently with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquids.
- Reseat the battery: Insert the battery firmly until it locks. Wiggle slightly to confirm a solid connection, then try powering on.
- Test with another battery: If possible, test with a known-good Progress battery. If E4 clears, the original pack’s BMS is likely faulty and the battery should be replaced.
- Service if persistent: If multiple good batteries all show E4, the control PCB’s battery interface or connector may be damaged. This requires disassembly and PCB replacement by a technician.
