Possible Causes

Battery pack overheating, Battery cells degraded or unbalanced, Short circuit in main motor drawing excessive current, Faulty battery management PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch off the vacuum and remove the battery pack. If the battery feels hot, place it on a non-flammable surface and allow it to cool completely.

Steps:

  • Inspect the battery contacts on both the pack and the vacuum body for dirt, corrosion, or burn marks. Clean gently with a dry cloth; do not use liquids.
  • Allow the battery to cool for at least 30–60 minutes, then place it on the original Russell Hobbs charger. Confirm that the charging indicator behaves normally (steady or pulsing light as per manual).
  • After a full charge, refit the battery and test the vacuum on LOW power first. If E5 appears immediately, the battery pack may be internally faulty.
  • If you have a second compatible battery, test with that. If the error only occurs with one battery, replace that pack. If it occurs with all batteries, the main motor or control PCB may be drawing too much current and needs professional diagnosis.

Warning: Do not use swollen, leaking, or physically damaged lithium-ion battery packs. Dispose of them at an approved recycling facility.
