Russell Hobbs
Restricted Airflow / Clogged Filters
Vacuum has very weak suction even though the motor sounds normal
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Clogged pre-motor foam filter, Blocked cyclone mesh screen, Dust-packed extension wand, Partially blocked floorhead inlet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch off and remove the battery.
Restore airflow:
- Remove and empty the dust bin. Tap it gently to remove compacted dust.
- Take out the pre-motor filter (usually foam and/or fabric). Tap off loose dust, then wash with lukewarm water if marked as washable. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours.
- Inspect the cyclone mesh/shroud for fine dust buildup. Brush it clean or rinse if the manual allows, then dry completely.
- Check the wand and floorhead neck for blockages and clear them using a flexible rod or broom handle.
- Reassemble and test suction. If suction is still weak, inspect the seals around the dust bin and cyclone for damage or misalignment.
Warning: Never use the vacuum with wet filters; this can damage the motor and promote mould growth.
