Possible Causes
Defective high/low speed selector switch, Faulty electronic control board, Weak Ryobi ONE+ battery unable to supply high current, Overheated motor triggering protection
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Remove the battery before inspection.
- Verify battery health: Try a different fully charged Ryobi ONE+ battery. High mode requires more current; older packs may sag under load.
- Cool-down period: If the vacuum has been used continuously, allow it to cool for 30 minutes. Overheat protection can limit speed.
- Check speed selector: Operate the high/low switch repeatedly. If it feels loose, sticks, or does not click, it may be worn. Lightly blow compressed air around the switch to remove dust.
- Inspect for damage: Look for cracks or impact damage near the control area that could have affected the internal PCB.
If high mode still fails with a good battery and a functioning switch, the control board is likely defective and should be replaced by a technician.
