Possible Causes

Depleted lithium‑ion battery pack, Faulty battery management system (BMS) PCB inside battery, High internal resistance in battery cells, Damaged battery connector pins in handle

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch the vacuum OFF, remove the battery pack from the handle, and unplug the charger from the mains before inspecting anything.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Fully charge the battery: Insert the Salter battery pack into the original Salter charger. Allow it to charge for at least 3–4 hours or until the charger indicator shows full. Then refit the battery and try again.
  • Check battery seating: Remove and reinsert the battery pack firmly into the handle until it clicks. Loose seating can trigger E1.
  • Inspect battery contacts: Examine the metal contacts on both the battery pack and the vacuum handle. If you see light corrosion or dust, gently clean with a dry cloth or a cotton bud slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Allow to dry fully before refitting.
  • Test with another outlet and charger: Plug the Salter charger into a different wall socket. If available, test with a known-good Salter charger compatible with your model to rule out a charging issue.
  • Cool down the battery: If the pack feels warm, leave it at room temperature for 30 minutes, then try charging again. Some BMS boards will lock out when overheated.

When to replace: If E1 persists after a full charge and contact cleaning, the internal BMS or cells are likely faulty. Replace the complete Salter lithium‑ion battery pack; do not attempt to open or repair the pack yourself due to fire and shock risk.
