Possible Causes

Severely clogged filters causing motor strain, Partially blocked motor inlet, Failing main motor bearings, Faulty motor driver on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Power off the unit and remove the battery. Allow the vacuum to cool for at least 30 minutes before further inspection.

  • Inspect and clean filters: Remove the pre-filter and HEPA/post-motor filter. Tap off dust and, if the model allows, rinse with cold water. Do not use detergents or hot water. Let filters dry completely (24 hours) before reinstalling.
  • Check for hidden blockages: Remove the dust bin, wand, and floor head. Inspect the motor inlet area behind the dust bin and the internal cyclone for compacted dust. Use a soft brush to loosen debris.
  • Listen for motor noise: With filters removed (but dust bin installed), briefly power on the unit (a few seconds only) to listen. Grinding, squealing, or burning smell suggests failing motor bearings.
  • Inspect vents: Ensure all cooling vents on the motor housing and body are free of lint and dust. Use a soft brush or compressed air (short bursts) to clean.
  • Test again: Reinstall dry filters and test. If E3 reappears quickly with clean airflow, the main motor or control board is likely defective and should be replaced by a technician.
