Possible Causes

Battery pack voltage below protection threshold, Battery management system (BMS) latched in protection mode, Faulty battery pack temperature/voltage sensor, Defective battery pack communication with main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Power the unit OFF. Do not attempt to open the battery pack casing; lithium‑ion packs can be hazardous if punctured or shorted.

  • Step 1 – Remove and reseat the battery: Slide the battery release latch and remove the battery pack. Inspect the contacts on both the battery and vacuum for dust, corrosion, or burn marks. Clean gently with a dry cloth (no liquids). Reseat the battery firmly until it clicks.
  • Step 2 – Fully charge the battery: Place the battery on the original Toshiba charger or dock. Confirm the charger LED turns on and begins charging. Allow it to charge for at least 3–4 hours or until the charger indicates full. If the charger LED blinks an error or stays off, suspect a bad battery or charger.
  • Step 3 – Reset protection: After a full charge, remove the battery from the charger, wait 60 seconds, then reinstall it in the vacuum. Press and hold the power button for 10–15 seconds to clear a temporary lockout (on some Toshiba cordless models this forces a soft reset).
  • Step 4 – Try another outlet/charger: If available, test with a known‑good Toshiba charger. A failing charger can leave the pack under‑charged and keep E1 active.
  • Step 5 – Inspect for swelling or overheating: If the battery pack is swollen, very hot, or emits odor, discontinue use immediately and replace the pack. Do not attempt to cool it with water or puncture it.

When to call a technician: If E1 persists after a full charge and reset, or if the pack will not charge at all, the internal BMS or cells are likely defective. Replace the battery pack with a genuine Toshiba pack or have a service center test it.
