Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Remove the battery pack and disconnect the motorized nozzle from the main body before opening any covers.
- Step 1 – Check for jams: Remove the brushroll cover and brushroll. Clear all hair and debris. Try running the vacuum with the nozzle attached but brushroll removed; if E4 disappears, the brushroll was overloading the motor and should be replaced.
- Step 2 – Inspect nozzle wiring: Look at the wiring harness where the nozzle swivels. Flex the joint gently and check for visible cuts or broken insulation. A broken wire can cause intermittent E4.
- Step 3 – Check brush motor rotation: With the brushroll removed and battery installed, briefly power on and select brush mode. If the motor shaft does not spin at all and E4 appears, the motor or nozzle PCB is likely faulty.
- Step 4 – Clean electrical contacts: Inspect the electrical contacts between the main body and nozzle (usually metal pads or pins). Clean with a dry cloth. Ensure the nozzle locks firmly into place.
When to call a technician: If the brush motor does not run with a free shaft and good connections, the nozzle motor or its control PCB must be replaced. These parts are usually serviced as a complete motorized floor nozzle assembly on Toshiba cordless vacuums.
