Toshiba
Charging Fault / Charger–Battery Communication Error
Vacuum will not charge; charger or dock LED blinks and vacuum display shows E5 when docked

Possible Causes
Faulty AC charger or wall dock, Dirty or bent charging contacts on vacuum or dock, Internal battery BMS communication failure, Damaged charging port PCB in the vacuum handle
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the charger from the wall before cleaning contacts. Do not short the charging terminals with metal objects.
- Step 1 – Verify power outlet: Plug another device (like a lamp) into the same outlet to confirm it has power. Try a different outlet if needed.
- Step 2 – Inspect and clean contacts: On the battery, vacuum body, and dock, inspect the metal charging contacts for dust, oxidation, or deformation. Clean gently with a dry cloth or a cotton swab. Do not use water or abrasive cleaners.
- Step 3 – Check charger cable and brick: Inspect for cuts, kinks, or burn marks. If the charger LED never lights when plugged in alone, the charger is likely defective and should be replaced with a genuine Toshiba unit.
- Step 4 – Reseat battery: Remove the battery from the vacuum (if detachable), then place it directly on the charger (if supported). If it charges off the vacuum but not when installed, the vacuum’s internal charging PCB or contacts may be faulty.
- Step 5 – Cool down the battery: If the pack is warm from use, let it cool 30 minutes before charging. Some Toshiba BMS circuits will refuse to charge hot packs and trigger an error.
When to call a technician: If E5 persists with a known‑good charger and clean contacts, the battery BMS or the vacuum’s charging PCB is likely defective. Replacement of the battery pack or handle PCB is recommended.
