Possible Causes
Blocked sump filter system, Clogged drain pump impeller, Blocked or kinked drain hose, Faulty drain pump on AEG dishwasher
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the dishwasher and unplug it or isolate it at the breaker. Water may be dirty; wear gloves.
- Clean filters: Open the door, remove the lower basket, and twist out the coarse and fine filters in the sump. Rinse them thoroughly under hot water and remove any food debris or glass.
- Check pump area: With filters removed, look into the sump for foreign objects. On many AEG models, you can access the pump impeller by removing a small cover in the sump. Carefully remove debris (bones, glass, labels) that may jam the impeller.
- Inspect drain hose: Check under the sink where the drain hose connects to the siphon or waste pipe. Ensure the hose is not kinked and that the spigot on the sink trap is not blocked. If recently installed, confirm the knockout plug in the spigot has been removed.
- Run a drain-only or cancel cycle: Refit filters, restore power, and run a drain or cancel program to see if the water is pumped out correctly.
- If still not draining: The drain pump may be weak or electrically faulty. Replacement requires tilting or removing the dishwasher and working underneath; if you are not comfortable with this, contact an AEG technician.
