How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power. Be prepared for water spillage when disconnecting hoses.
- Check sink/disposal: Run the garbage disposal to clear the sink drain. If the dishwasher was recently installed to a new disposal, ensure the knockout plug was removed from the disposal inlet.
- Inspect drain hose: Look for kinks or clogs in the hose from the dishwasher to the sink or disposal. Disconnect and flush the hose with water.
- Clean pump area: Remove the lower rack and filter assembly. Check for debris (glass, bones, labels) around the drain pump inlet.
- Test drain pump: Access the pump from below, disconnect wires, and measure resistance. An open circuit or seized impeller indicates a bad pump.
Repair action: Clear any obstructions in the hose and pump. Replace the drain pump if it is electrically open or mechanically jammed beyond cleaning.
