Possible Causes
Glass or bone fragments in circulation pump, Loose cutlery hitting spray arms, Worn pump bearings, Spray arm hitting tall items
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off and unplug the dishwasher before inspection.
- Check loading: Ensure long utensils are placed horizontally and do not protrude through the basket where they can hit the spray arms.
- Inspect spray arms: Spin the spray arms by hand to check for free movement and contact with dishes.
- Check sump for debris: Remove filters and look for glass or hard objects in the sump. Remove carefully.
- Listen to pumps: If grinding occurs only during drain, suspect the drain pump. If during wash, suspect the circulation pump. Access the base and inspect the relevant pump for debris.
- Replace worn pump: If noise persists and the impeller and housing are clear, the pump bearings may be worn and the pump should be replaced.
