Dishwasher stops and shows E22; water may not drain properly and dirty water remains in the bottom.

Safety first: Turn off the dishwasher and unplug it. Water may be dirty; wear gloves.

• Clean filters: Remove the lower basket. Twist and lift out the cylindrical filter and flat mesh filter. Rinse thoroughly under running water.
• Check sump area: Remove any visible debris (bones, glass, labels) from the sump.
• Inspect drain pump: On some Balay models, you can access the drain pump impeller from inside by removing a small cover in the sump. Check for obstructions and remove them carefully.
• Check drain hose: Ensure the drain hose is not kinked behind the machine and that the connection to the sink trap is not blocked. Clean the sink trap inlet if necessary.
• Run a drain program: After cleaning, run a drain or quick program to verify that water is pumped out correctly.
