Possible Causes

Blocked drain filter in sump, Clogged drain hose or sink connection, Defective drain pump, Foreign object jammed in pump impeller

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the wall or breaker before accessing internal parts. Water may be hot.

  • Clean the filters: Open the door, remove the lower rack, and twist out the coarse and fine filters in the sump. Rinse thoroughly under running water and remove any food debris from the sump area.
  • Check for standing water: Use a sponge or towel to remove excess water so you can see into the sump. Look for glass, bones, or labels that may block the drain port.
  • Inspect the drain hose: At the sink trap or garbage disposal, disconnect the dishwasher drain hose. Check for blockages and flush with water. Ensure the hose is not kinked or crushed behind the cabinet.
  • Check the pump impeller: From inside the tub, remove the pump cover (usually held by a clip or screw near the filter). Gently turn the impeller with a finger or plastic tool. Remove any foreign objects.
  • Test operation: Reassemble, restore power, and run a drain or quick cycle. If E2 persists and the pump hums but does not move water, the drain pump may need replacement.

For replacement of the drain pump or wiring checks, a qualified technician is recommended.
