Possible Causes

Defective circulation pump motor, Jammed impeller due to debris, Seized pump bearings, Faulty pump capacitor or wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dishwasher and close the water tap. Internal edges can be sharp; wear gloves.

  • Confirm lack of circulation: Start a cycle and listen. If you hear filling and then only a low hum or silence instead of strong spraying sounds, the circulation pump is likely not running.
  • Check for obstructions: Remove lower and upper spray arms and ensure they are not blocked. Inspect the sump area for broken glass or plastic that could jam the pump.
  • Access the pump: Lay the dishwasher on its back (with towels) and remove the bottom panel. Locate the circulation pump attached to the sump.
  • Inspect impeller: Disconnect the pump electrical connector. Remove the pump from the sump (usually by twisting or removing screws). Check the impeller for debris and ensure it turns freely.
  • Electrical test (advanced): Measure resistance of the pump motor windings. An open circuit or burnt smell indicates a failed motor. Also inspect the start capacitor (if fitted) for bulging or leakage.
  • Replace if necessary: Refit or replace the circulation pump assembly and any faulty capacitor. Ensure all seals are correctly seated to prevent leaks.

Due to the complexity and risk of leaks, many users prefer a technician for pump replacement.
