Possible Causes
Broken glass or bones in circulation pump, Debris in drain pump impeller, Loose items hitting spray arms, Worn pump bearings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and allow moving parts to stop before inspection.
- 1. Check interior: Remove racks and inspect the sump area for foreign objects such as glass shards, toothpicks, or bones.
- 2. Inspect spray arms: Ensure spray arms are not hitting tall items. Remove and check for debris inside the arms.
- 3. Access pumps: From the bottom, remove the drain pump and circulation pump covers (if serviceable) and clear any obstructions from the impellers.
- 4. Listen after cleaning: Run a short cycle. If grinding persists, the pump bearings may be worn and the pump assembly should be replaced.
Avoid running the dishwasher with loud grinding noises to prevent further damage.
