Possible Causes
Clogged drain filter in sump, Blocked drain hose or air gap, Failed drain pump, Improper drain hose installation causing backflow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before servicing. Water may be hot.
- 1. Clean the filter system: Open the door, remove the lower rack, and twist out the fine and coarse filters in the sump area. Rinse thoroughly under running water and remove any food debris from the sump opening.
- 2. Check for standing water: Use a cup or sponge to remove excess water so you can see into the sump. Inspect for broken glass, bones, or foreign objects blocking the drain port.
- 3. Inspect the drain hose: At the sink or garbage disposal connection, remove the drain hose clamp and check for clogs. If connected to a new disposal, ensure the knockout plug has been removed. Verify the hose has a proper high loop and is not kinked.
- 4. Test the drain pump: Remove the toe-kick panel to access the drain pump. Check for obstructions in the pump impeller by gently turning it with a finger or screwdriver (power off). If the pump hums but does not turn during a drain cycle, it may be seized and require replacement.
- 5. Reassemble and test: Restore power and run a short cycle to confirm proper draining.
If E2 persists after clearing all obstructions, the drain pump or control board may need professional diagnosis.
