Possible Causes

Clogged drain filter in sump, Blocked drain hose or sink connection, Defective drain pump, Foreign object jammed in pump impeller

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and turn off the water supply before servicing. Water may be hot; wear gloves.

  • 1. Clean filters: Open the door, remove the lower basket, and take out the coarse and fine filters from the sump. Rinse thoroughly under running water to remove food debris and grease.
  • 2. Check for standing water: Use a sponge or container to remove standing water from the sump so you can access the pump area.
  • 3. Inspect pump area: Remove the pump cover (usually held by a clip or screw) and check for glass, bones, or other objects blocking the impeller. Carefully remove any obstruction and ensure the impeller spins freely.
  • 4. Check drain hose: Inspect the drain hose from the dishwasher to the sink trap for kinks, clogs, or ice (in cold locations). Detach from the sink siphon and flush with water. Clean the sink trap inlet where the hose connects.
  • 5. Test drain pump: If the pump hums but does not turn, or is silent and shows correct supply voltage, the pump is likely defective. Replace the drain pump assembly.
