Possible Causes
Open-circuit heating element, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Burnt wiring or connector on heater, Defective electronic control board relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the dishwasher from mains power before accessing internal components. Heating components can retain residual heat.
- 1. Confirm symptom: Run a hot program and open the door mid-cycle (after 15–20 minutes). If the water is cold and E3 appears, the heating circuit is likely faulty.
- 2. Access heater: On many Brandt dishwashers the heater is integrated in the circulation pump (heat-pump assembly) or mounted in the base. Remove the toe-kick panel and bottom cover to access it.
- 3. Check heater resistance: Disconnect the heater terminals and measure resistance with a multimeter. A typical value is 20–30 Ω. Infinite resistance indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- 4. Inspect NTC sensor: Locate the NTC (temperature sensor) in the sump or on the heater housing. Check its connector for corrosion and measure resistance; it should change with temperature. Replace if open or shorted.
- 5. Examine wiring and control board: Look for burnt connectors or tracks on the main PCB near the heater relay. If the relay is damaged or the board is burnt, the electronic control board should be replaced.
