Possible Causes
Defective circulation pump motor, Blocked impeller due to debris, Seized pump bearings, Faulty wiring or connector to circulation pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and close the water supply. Internal edges can be sharp; wear cut-resistant gloves.
- 1. Listen for pump operation: Start a wash program and listen after filling. If you hear only a humming or no sound at all before E5 appears, the circulation pump may be jammed or failed.
- 2. Check sump for debris: Remove filters and inspect the sump area. Some Brandt models allow limited access to the circulation pump impeller from inside the tub. Remove any visible debris.
- 3. Access circulation pump: Lay the dishwasher on its back (after draining water) and remove the bottom panel. Locate the circulation pump attached to the sump.
- 4. Inspect impeller and housing: Detach the pump and check for broken glass, bones, or plastic obstructing the impeller. Ensure the impeller spins freely. If the motor shaft is stiff or noisy, the pump should be replaced.
- 5. Check electrical connections: Verify that the wiring harness and connector to the pump are secure and not burnt. If voltage is present during wash but the pump does not run, replace the circulation pump assembly.
