Possible Causes

Open or shorted heater element, Faulty thermistor/temperature sensor, Loose heater wiring, Control board heater relay failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Do not work on the heater circuit with power connected.

  • Confirm symptom: Run a heated cycle and check if the tub and dishes feel warm at the end. If they are cold and C7 appears, suspect heater issues.
  • Inspect heater and wiring: Remove the lower rack and visually inspect the heater for cracks or burn spots. Pull the dishwasher out and remove the bottom panel to access heater terminals. Check for loose or burned connectors.
  • Test heater continuity: With a multimeter, measure resistance across the heater. An open reading indicates a failed heater that must be replaced.
  • Check thermistor: Locate the temperature sensor in the sump area. Inspect for damage or corrosion. Measure resistance and compare to Café/GE temperature-resistance chart if available.
  • Check harness: Follow the wiring from the heater and thermistor to the control board. Look for pinched, broken, or burned wires.
  • If components test good: A faulty control board heater relay or sensing circuit may be causing C7. Replacement of the control board is typically required and is best handled by a technician.
