Possible Causes

Failed booster heater element, Faulty booster thermostat or temperature probe, Insufficient incoming hot water temperature, Booster heater contactor or relay failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect electrical power and allow the booster heater to cool completely before opening any panels.

Steps to troubleshoot:

  • Check incoming hot water: Measure the temperature of the supply water feeding the Champion dishwasher. If it is below the specified minimum (often 140–160°F / 60–71°C depending on model), the booster may not reach sanitizing temperature in time.
  • Inspect booster heater element: Access the booster tank. Look for leaks, corrosion, or burned terminals on the element. With power off, measure resistance across the element; an open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
  • Verify booster thermostat / temperature probe: Locate the booster thermostat or NTC sensor. Check for loose wiring and corrosion. Measure sensor resistance and compare to Champion specifications. Replace if readings are out of range.
  • Check high-limit on booster: Many Champion boosters have a manual-reset high-limit. Press the reset button if tripped. If it trips repeatedly, investigate for low water flow or scale on the element.
  • Inspect booster contactor/relay: In the control panel, verify that the booster heater contactor energizes when the controller calls for heat. Replace the contactor or solid-state relay if it fails to close or shows burned contacts.

When to call a technician: Booster heaters operate at high wattage and may be three-phase. If you are not experienced with high-voltage equipment, have a Champion service technician perform these checks and replacements.
