Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and ensure hot water has cooled. Do not reach into the sump with power connected.
Clearing blockages:
- Clean tank strainer and scrap basket: Remove the Champion tank strainer, scrap basket, and any pre-filter screens. Rinse thoroughly to remove food debris, labels, and plastic pieces.
- Inspect drain outlet and hose: Detach the drain hose from the machine outlet. Check for grease, scale, or foreign objects. Flush the hose with hot water. Ensure the external air gap (if fitted) is not blocked.
- Check drain pump impeller: Access the drain pump at the base of the unit. Remove the pump cover and inspect the impeller for broken blades or obstructions (glass, bones, etc.). Clear debris carefully and reassemble.
- Test drain pump motor: With power off, spin the impeller by hand; it should turn freely. Measure motor winding resistance and compare to Champion specifications. If open or shorted, replace the drain pump assembly.
- Verify drain level sensor / float: Locate the drain level float or pressure sensor. Ensure it moves freely and is not coated with grease or scale. Clean and test continuity as the float is raised and lowered.
When to call a technician: If the pump receives proper voltage but does not run, or if wiring to the control board is damaged, a professional technician should complete the repair.
