Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and close the water supply immediately if overfilling occurs. Mop up any spilled water to prevent slips.
Correcting overfill:
- Inspect float assembly: Locate the Champion tank or sump float. Ensure it moves freely up and down. Clean off grease, scale, or debris that may cause sticking. Verify the float rod is straight and unobstructed.
- Check pressure tube: If your model uses a pressure switch, remove the small rubber tube from the sensor and blow through it to clear blockages. Reattach securely.
- Test level sensor / switch: With power off, test continuity of the float switch or pressure switch at different positions. Replace if it does not change state correctly.
- Inspect inlet valve for mechanical sticking: Remove the water inlet valve and check for debris or scale preventing closure. If the valve leaks water when de-energized, replace the Champion inlet valve assembly.
- Reset and monitor: Restore power and water, then run a fill cycle while watching the water level. Confirm that filling stops at the correct level and E7 does not reappear.
When to call a technician: If the control board continues to call for water despite a correct level signal, professional electronic diagnosis is required.
