Possible Causes
Failed heating element, Open high-limit thermostat, Faulty temperature sensor (NTC), Loose or burned wiring at heater terminals
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before accessing internal components.
- Confirm symptom: Run a wash cycle and open the door mid-cycle (carefully) to feel the water temperature. If it is cold and E2 appears, proceed.
- Inspect heating element: Access the underside of the tub from the front or rear. Look for the exposed metal heating element. Check for visible breaks, burns, or heavy scale buildup.
- Test element continuity: Remove the wires from the element terminals and measure resistance with a multimeter. A typical reading is 10–40 Ω. Infinite resistance indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- Check high-limit thermostat: Locate the high-limit thermostat mounted on or near the bottom of the tub. Remove wires and test for continuity. An open thermostat at room temperature means it has failed.
- Inspect wiring and connectors: Look for burned, loose, or corroded terminals at the heater and thermostat. Repair or replace damaged wiring using proper high-temperature connectors.
- Replace faulty parts: Install a new OEM-style heating element or high-limit thermostat as needed, ensuring seals and gaskets are properly seated to prevent leaks.
