Possible Causes
Weak or partially failed heating element, NTC sensor reading high, Low incoming water temperature, Control board not energizing heater fully
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before testing electrical components.
- Verify incoming water temperature: Run hot water at the sink until fully hot, then measure. Aim for 120°F (49°C). If much lower, adjust your water heater.
- Check heating element: Inspect the Dacor heater for scale buildup or discoloration. Test resistance with a multimeter; a significantly higher resistance than spec can indicate a weak element.
- Test NTC sensor: Measure sensor resistance at room temperature and compare to Dacor specs. Replace if reading is too high or unstable.
- Inspect wiring and relay: Ensure heater wiring is tight and not overheated. Check the control board heater relay for signs of arcing or partial failure.
- Run a service cycle: After repairs, run a full cycle and confirm that water heats properly and E13 does not reappear.
