Possible Causes
Clogged drain hose, Blocked sink/disposal connection, Clogged drain pump impeller, Defective drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker and avoid working in standing water.
- Check sink drain/disposal: Run water in the sink and verify it drains freely. If a garbage disposal was recently installed, ensure the dishwasher knockout plug in the disposal inlet was removed.
- Inspect drain hose routing: Confirm the hose is not kinked or crushed behind the dishwasher and that it has a proper high loop to prevent backflow.
- Clean drain hose and connection: Remove the hose from the sink/disposal connection and flush it with hot water. Clear any food debris or grease buildup.
- Check pump filter and impeller: Remove the lower spray arm and filter assembly inside the tub. Access the drain pump inlet and remove any glass, seeds, or debris from the impeller area.
- Test cycle: Restore power and run a rinse cycle. If E2 persists and you hear no pump noise, the drain pump may be defective and should be replaced.
