Unpleasant odor coming from the dishwasher, especially when opening the door after it has been idle.

Possible Causes

Food debris trapped in filter, Standing water in sump, Grease buildup in hoses, Infrequent use

Safety first: Wear gloves when cleaning dirty filters and sump areas.

Clean filters thoroughly: Remove and scrub filters with hot soapy water.
Clean sump area: Wipe around the sump and door seals with a cloth soaked in hot water and mild detergent.
Run cleaning cycle: Run an empty hot cycle with a dishwasher cleaner or a cup of white vinegar on the top rack.
Leave door ajar: After cycles, leave the door slightly open to allow ventilation and prevent stale odors.
