Possible Causes
Defective circulation pump motor, Jammed impeller due to debris, Seized pump bearings, Faulty wiring to circulation pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance and ensure there is no standing hot water before working underneath.
- Listen for pump operation: Start a wash cycle and listen. If you hear filling and then only a low hum or nothing when washing should start, the circulation pump is suspect.
- Access the pump: Lay the dishwasher on its back and remove the bottom panel. Locate the main circulation pump attached to the sump.
- Check for blockage: Remove the pump from the sump (twist-lock or screws depending on model). Inspect the impeller area for broken glass, seeds, or other debris. Clear any obstruction.
- Test the motor: With the pump disconnected, measure coil resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit or very low resistance indicates a failed motor. Also inspect the connector and wiring harness for burns or loose pins.
- Replace if necessary: If the motor is seized or electrically faulty, replace the circulation pump assembly with a compatible De Dietrich part. Reassemble, ensuring all seals are correctly seated to prevent leaks.
