Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump, Clogged drain hose, Obstructed air break or standpipe, Defective drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and ensure the machine is cool before working near water.
- Check external plumbing: Inspect the sink trap and standpipe for blockages. Ensure the drain hose is not kinked or installed too high above the recommended height.
- Clean filters: Open the door, remove the lower basket, and take out the sump filters. Rinse thoroughly to remove food debris.
- Inspect drain pump area: With filters removed, look into the sump for broken glass, bones, or foreign objects. Carefully remove any obstructions.
- Access drain pump: Remove the lower front panel or base plate (depending on model). Disconnect the drain hose from the pump and check for clogs. Spin the pump impeller by hand; it should turn freely.
- Test pump: If the pump hums but does not turn, or is open-circuit on a multimeter, replace the drain pump.
- Reassemble and test: Refit all parts, restore power, and run a drain or short cycle to confirm proper operation.
