Possible Causes
Stuck regeneration valve, Blocked salt tank or brine channel, Empty or incorrect dishwasher salt, Faulty softener control on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing side panels or accessing the softener system.
- 1. Check salt level: Open the salt compartment in the base of the tub and ensure it is filled with proper dishwasher salt (not table salt). Wipe away any spilled salt from the tub.
- 2. Inspect for blockages: If accessible, remove the side panel to view the water softener tank and regeneration valve. Look for heavy limescale or salt bridging.
- 3. Run regeneration: After refilling salt, run a hot intensive program to allow the softener to regenerate and flush.
- 4. Valve check: Listen during the cycle for the softener valve clicking. If E12 persists and there is no valve activity, the regeneration valve coil may be faulty.
- 5. Replacement: Replace the regeneration valve or complete softener assembly if the valve is stuck or coil is open-circuit.
- 6. Professional service: Softener system repairs can be complex and involve sealing water connections; a technician is recommended if you are unsure.
