Possible Causes

Blocked drain filter in sump, Clogged drain hose or sink connection, Jammed or failed drain pump, Faulty drain pump wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dishwasher and ensure water is cool before reaching inside.

  • 1. Clean internal filters: Open the door, remove the lower basket, and twist out the cylindrical filter and flat mesh filter in the bottom. Rinse thoroughly under running water to remove food debris and grease.
  • 2. Check sump area: With filters removed, look into the sump where water collects. Remove any glass, bones, or foreign objects that could block the pump inlet.
  • 3. Inspect drain hose: At the back, ensure the drain hose is not kinked or crushed. Under the sink, disconnect the hose from the spigot and clear any blockage in the spigot or hose using a flexible brush.
  • 4. Check drain pump impeller: Access the base (remove kick plate or tilt the machine carefully). Locate the drain pump on the side of the sump. Remove the pump cover if accessible and check that the impeller spins freely and is not jammed by debris.
  • 5. Test run: Reassemble, restore power, and run a drain or quick program. If E3 persists and the pump does not run or only hums, the drain pump is likely defective and should be replaced.
  • 6. When to call a technician: If you see signs of water leakage around the pump or are unable to access the base safely, contact a service professional.
