Possible Causes

Open or shorted thermistor, Faulty heater plate temperature sensor, Wiring harness damage to sensor, Control board temperature circuit failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before inspection.

  • Power reset: Turn off power at the wall for 5 minutes, then restore power and attempt a short cycle. If F3 returns, continue.
  • Check water temperature: Ensure incoming hot water is not excessively hot (ideally 120°F / 49°C). Extremely hot supply can confuse the sensor.
  • Inspect sensor wiring: Access the underside of the unit and locate the thermistor / temperature sensor near the heater plate or sump. Check for loose connectors, corrosion, or damaged wires.
  • Test the thermistor: Using a multimeter (if you are qualified), measure the resistance of the thermistor at room temperature and compare with service specifications. An open or shorted reading indicates a bad sensor.

If wiring is intact and the thermistor tests out of range, replace the temperature sensor / thermistor assembly. If the sensor is good, the main control board may be defective and should be diagnosed by a technician.
