Possible Causes
Blocked drain filter or sump, Clogged drain hose, Failed drain pump, Kinked or incorrectly installed drain hose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before working on the unit.
- Check and clean filters: Remove the lower rack and lift out the filter plate and any removable filters. Rinse thoroughly and remove food debris, glass, or labels.
- Inspect the sump area: Look into the sump where the water collects. Remove any obstructions that could block the drain pump inlet.
- Check the drain hose: At the back or under the sink, inspect the drain hose for kinks, sharp bends, or clogs. Detach it from the sink trap or garbage disposer and flush it with water.
- Garbage disposer knockout: If recently installed to a new disposer, ensure the disposer’s dishwasher knockout plug has been removed.
- Test drain pump operation: Restore power and start a drain or cancel cycle. Listen for the drain pump. If it hums but does not pump, it may be jammed or failing. If it is silent, it may not be receiving power or is open-circuit.
If cleaning and hose checks do not resolve the issue, the drain pump is likely faulty and should be replaced.
