Possible Causes
Clogged drain filter or sump, Blocked or kinked drain hose, Obstructed air gap or garbage disposal inlet, Weak or failed drain pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power at the breaker before servicing. Water may be hot; wear gloves.
- Clean filters and sump: Remove the lower rack. Twist and lift out the fine filter and coarse filter. Rinse under hot water and scrub off grease. Check the sump opening for food debris, glass, or labels and remove carefully.
- Check drain hose routing: Inspect the drain hose from the dishwasher to the sink/disposal. Ensure it is not kinked, crushed, or sagging excessively. Correct the routing and secure a proper high loop under the counter.
- Clear air gap / disposal: If you have an air gap, remove the cap and clean out any buildup. If connected to a garbage disposal, ensure the knockout plug was removed when installed and that the disposal inlet is not clogged.
- Test drain function: Restore power, start a cancel/drain cycle, and listen. If the pump hums but little water exits, the pump impeller may be obstructed or the pump is failing.
- Inspect drain pump: Disconnect power again, remove the toe-kick panel, and access the drain pump on the sump. Check for broken glass or debris in the impeller. If the impeller is damaged or the pump is noisy and weak, replace the drain pump.
- When to call a technician: If the i20 returns after all hoses and filters are clear, the pressure sensor or control board may be misreading drain pressure and should be diagnosed professionally.
