Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power at the breaker. Heating components can retain heat; allow the unit to cool before touching internal parts.
- 1. Confirm heating issue: Run a hot wash cycle. After 15–20 minutes, open the door carefully. If the water is not noticeably hot and there is no steam, the heater is likely not operating.
- 2. Inspect wiring and connectors: Remove the lower access panel. Locate the heating element terminals and high-limit thermostat. Check for burnt or loose connectors.
- 3. Test heating element: With power off, disconnect the element leads and measure resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- 4. Check high-limit thermostat: Test continuity across the thermostat. If it is open at room temperature, replace it.
- 5. Inspect temperature sensor (if equipped): Some Frigidaire models use an NTC sensor in the sump. Verify its connector is secure. If readings are out of spec, replace the sensor.
If all heating components test good, the main control board heater relay may be faulty and should be diagnosed and replaced by a professional.
