Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power. Overheating can be a fire risk; do not continue using the dishwasher until resolved.
- Check water temperature: Run a short cycle and carefully feel the inner door after a few minutes (without touching hot water). If it is extremely hot or steam is excessive, overheating is likely.
- Inspect NTC sensor: Test the NTC resistance at room temperature and compare to specifications. A sensor reading too low may cause the control to overheat the water. Replace if out of range.
- Control board relay: Inspect the main control board for a heater relay stuck closed (contacts welded). If the heater remains energized when it should be off, replace the control board.
- Descale system: Heavy limescale on the heater and in the sump can cause hot spots. Run a dishwasher descaling cycle with a recommended cleaner after repairs.
Because of the safety implications, overheating faults should be addressed promptly by a qualified technician if you are unsure.
