Possible Causes
Defective wash circulation pump motor, Blocked pump impeller, Seized pump bearings, Faulty wiring harness to circulation pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and allow the unit to cool before working underneath.
- Listen for pump operation: Start a wash cycle. After filling, you should hear a strong, steady wash motor sound. A low hum or silence with E6 indicates a circulation issue.
- Check for obstructions: Remove lower spray arm and filters. Inspect the sump inlet to the circulation pump for broken glass, bones, or other debris. Carefully remove any obstructions.
- Access circulation pump: Pull the dishwasher out and lay it on its back. Remove the bottom cover to access the circulation pump attached to the sump. Inspect for leaks or burn marks.
- Test pump: Disconnect the pump connector and measure coil resistance. If open or shorted, replace the circulation pump assembly. Check that the impeller turns freely by hand; if stiff or seized, replacement is required.
- Inspect wiring: Trace the harness from the control board to the pump for damage or loose connectors. Repair or replace as needed.
Because the circulation pump is integral to wash performance, replacement is often the most effective repair when E6 is present.
