Possible Causes
Burned-out flow-through heater, overheated heater due to low water level, wiring damage to heater, defective heater relay on control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power and close water supply. Heating components carry mains voltage and can be live even when not heating.
Steps:
- Confirm symptom: Run a hot program and open the door immediately after it ends (carefully). If the interior is cold and E09 appears, suspect the heater.
- Access heater: Remove toe-kick and slide the dishwasher out. The flow-through heater is usually attached to the circulation pump on the base.
- Test heater: Disconnect heater terminals and measure resistance. An open circuit (OL) indicates a failed heater.
- Inspect wiring and connectors: Look for heat damage or loose connections at the heater and control board.
- Replace heater assembly: Replace the complete heater/pump assembly or heater module as specified for your Gaggenau model. Transfer any sensors or seals as required.
- Check for underlying causes: Verify that water level and circulation are correct to prevent premature heater failure.
