Possible Causes
Seized wash motor, Debris jammed in impeller, Failed start capacitor (on some models), Open motor winding
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power and water. The dishwasher may need to be pulled out for access.
- Confirm fill: Start a cycle and open the door after a few minutes to verify water is present in the tub.
- Listen for motor: A low hum without water spraying indicates a stuck or failed motor.
- Check for obstructions: Remove lower rack, spray arm, and filters. Inspect the sump for broken glass, bones, or other debris that could jam the impeller.
- Access circulation pump: From underneath, remove the wash motor from the sump. Inspect and clean the impeller. If the impeller is damaged or the motor shaft is stiff, replace the circulation pump assembly.
- Test motor electrically: Use a multimeter to check motor winding resistance. Replace the pump if readings are open or shorted.
