Possible Causes
Severe blockage in drain line, Sump blockage, Failed drain pump, Control misreading water level
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the breaker. Water may be hot; wear gloves.
- Confirm actual water level: Open the door and check if water is still in the tub. If the tub is empty but C3 persists, the control or sensor may be at fault.
- Deep clean the sump: Remove lower rack, spray arm, and filters. Use a flashlight to inspect the sump cavity. Remove any glass, bones, or labels that could block the drain path.
- Check the entire drain path: Disconnect the drain hose at both ends (sump and sink/disposal). Flush with hot water and, if needed, compressed air to clear blockages.
- Test drain pump operation: With the unit pulled out and bottom panel removed, visually inspect the pump for leaks or burn marks. If the pump hums but does not move water, or shows signs of overheating, replace it.
- If tub is empty but C3 remains: The control board may be misinterpreting the drain time. After verifying all plumbing is clear, consider replacing the main control board.
